IPC evaluation and refresher:
Pilots requiring an IPC to regain instrument currency following a period of more than a year without fulfilling the required six approaches, intercept, track of a radial and demonstrated hold may have to participate in the two-part IPC program.
How it works:
Part 1: Evaluation and Refresher Purchase
IPC Refresher consists of an hour oral exam and an hour simulator ride to evaluate what training/proficiency is required. At this point the instructor and student develop a tailored lesson plan to address deficient areas. After completion, a student is ready for IPC training.
›› The FAA IPC/PTS tasks requires that the following maneuvers are to be demonstrated in an aircraft.
• Circle to Land
• Unusual Attitudes
These maneuvers must be accomplished in a pilot provided aircraft. Otherwise, other arrangements must be made for an aircraft to demonstrate these requirements and will be subjected to an additional cost to rent an appropriate aircraft. |
Part 2: IPC Training Purchase
This five-hour IPC course provides up to three hours in the FAA approved, Elite iGate 500 PCATD with a qualified instructor. If the candidate has been away from flying for a year or more, additional time may be required for completion (see IPC evaluation and refresher above). Please discuss these issues with the certified flight instructor.
IPC is in an instrument check ride, conducted to the standards of the FAA instrument practical test standards (PTS) to ensure the candidate is proficient to fly in the system (provides minimal training).
